Advanced Life Support
The
Frontenac Fire Department in cooperation with our medical control,
St. Johns, http://www.stjohnsmercy.org/ provide the highest
quality in Emergency Medicine to the people we serve. The Frontenac
Fire Department is dedicated to developing and maintaining our EMS
system, ensuring that a uniform quality and standard of pre-hospital
emergency medical care is available to everyone in the City of
Frontenac, Huntleigh, Crystal Lake Park, and Country Life Acres. The
Frontenac Fire Department is on the cutting edge of providing
emergency medical services by using the latest equipment and training
available. The Frontenac Fire Department has two Advanced Life
Support pumpers completely stocked with the most advanced medical
equipment on the market.
Both of the fire department
apparatus are equipped with 12-lead heart monitors, ventilators,
advanced airways, pain management medications, and a number of life
saving medications. Both of the fire trucks respond with paramedics
trained in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric life support and
pre- hospital trauma life support. Paramedics are capable of
administering life saving drugs during emergencies such as heart
attacks, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, seizures and other
medical emergencies.
The
Department currently employs 9 State certified paramedics and 5 State
certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). With an average
response time of 3.5 minutes to
emergency medical calls, the men and women of the Frontenac Fire
Department provide our citizens and visitors with the highest level
of emergency care. Frontenac Paramedics work to stabilize patients
until Abbott ambulance http://www.abbottems.org/ arrives to
provide transportation to the hospital of choice. In the event of an
acute medical or trauma emergency the Fire Department Paramedics will
provide the medical care throughout the transport, until released to
the emergency department.
St. John’s one of only three
level one trauma centers in the metropolitan area provides the
Frontenac Fire Department with aggressive medical protocols. The Fire
Department meets with the St. John’s paramedic educator and the
medical director monthly to review protocols, and the latest
emergency medical procedures. Our Firefighters train on Fire and EMS
topics everyday to provide our citizens with the best service
possible.
