MOSQUITOES & STANDING WATER

With the recent rain we have had in the area, the City is including material from St. Louis County Vector Control regarding the breeding of mosquitoes and standing water. Mosquitoes can develop in any standing water that is present for more than five days. To reduce the mosquito population around your home and property, eliminate all standing water and debris. Here are some spots where water can collect or where poor maintenance can cause problems.

• Dump Standing Water Pool cover that collects water, neglected swimming pool, hot tub or child's wading pool.
• Birdbath (clean weekly) and ornamental pool (stock with fish).
• Any toy, garden equipment or container that can hold water.
• Flat roof without adequate drainage.
• Clogged rain gutter (home and street).
• Leaky faucet or pet bowl (change water daily).
• Uncovered boat or boat cover that collects water.
• Missing, damaged or improperly installed screens.
• Tree rot hole or hollow stump.
• Junk and discarded tires (drill drain holes in bottom of tire swings).

People wanting information on the general location of mosquito spraying in St. Louis County can call 314-615-4284 (615-4BUG). A recorded message is updated daily between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

STORMWATER INFORMATION

Listed below are several links to help you identify if your stormwater problem is included on the master plan, and when a project is planned for your area. If you are not listed on the plan, please print out and submit a questionnaire. If you would like to apply for the City’s stormwater grant fund to accelerate your project, a grant application is attached under “Stormwater Grant Application”. Follow the links below to see the schedule for your project: 

• Look up your address (or neighbors) on “Street Address Locator”

• On your Street Address Locator is a figure number such as “6-2”

• Go to your figure number listed on the home page and click it

• Each figure will have several specific problem types. Following the figure are cost estimates for each project on the drawing. Find the cost estimate for your project and note the Problem Type such as Overland Flow or Overland Flow Structural Flooding, in the Project Name. 

• Once you have identified your figure number AND problem type, go to “Stormwater Dates” to find out when your project is scheduled
