Do the Mayor and Board of Aldermen receive compensation?
No. Frontenac elected officials voted in 2005 to not receive compensation. Frontenac is one of the few cities in St. Louis County where neither the Mayor nor any elected officials receive compensation

How long is the permit review period?
It depends on the time of year and number of permits that have been submitted. Typically an initial review is two to three weeks after approval by the ARB.
What fees are involved for permits ?
There is a permit schedule in the Municipal Code. The minimum fee is $120 except for excavation permit. Excavation permit fees are based on square footage of the excavation.
How do I submit a plan/project?
A building permit application needs to be filled out along with two copies of the construction plans and site plan (if applicable, interior renovations for example does not require a site plan.) Refer to our construction pamphlets for more information.
What is a suggested time frame for a residential project?
Construction permits are valid for 6 months, however, permit extensions may be granted and there is a $100 fee for permit extensions.
What is a suggested time frame for a commercial project?
This is basically the same as the answer for residential projects.
How do I know if a permit is required?
Most construction permits including basement remodels and many kitchen and bath remodels require a permit when in doubt call the building department at 314-994-3200.
What types of projects require a permit?
New buildings, additions, fences, decks, basement remodeling, many bath and kitchen remodels, swimming pools, driveway excavations, new patios, pergolas, sunrooms, patio covers, outdoor kitchens, etc… When in doubt call the building department at 314-994-3200.
What types of inspections are involved?
When a permit is issued, the contractor or owner who picks up the permit will receive a conditions of permit statement that he or she signs.

Call the building department at 314-994-3200 48 hours in advance of the needed inspection.
When are official/acceptable construction hours in the City of Frontenac?
Construction is restricted to 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday - Saturday.
How do I report a violation?
If you suspect there is a violation of the City construction codes or property maintenance code, call the building department at 314-994-3200 Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m

What are the differences between R-1 and R-2 zoning?
R-1 Residence District is one (1) acre minimum zoning and R-2 Residence District is 7,500 square feet minimum zoning. For more information view the City Code and review the two zoning districts.

Where can I access meeting agendas and minutes for the Board of Adjustment or Planning and Zoning Commission?
The meeting agendas and minutes for all City Boards, Commissions and Committees are located on the City's website. The Board of Adjustment transcripts can be reviewed by contacting the Building Commission at (314) 373-6534.
Is there a green space requirement in residential districts?
The R-1, One Acre Residence District requires no less than 60% green space, the R-2, Residence District requires that the front yard have at least 55% green space.
What are planned districts?
A planned district is a development that has unique features, uses, combinations of uses that may not meet the requirements of the zoning district in which the property or properties are located.
Do I need a permit to construct a deck?
Permits are required for any type of structure (new or rebuilt).
Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen?
If the existing cabinets are being directly replaced a permit is not required.

The Frontenac Fire Department provides fire, EMS and rescue services to the City of Frontenac and our contract cities of Crystal Lake Park, Huntleigh, and Country Life Acres.

The Frontenac Fire Department apparatus vehicles include Rescue Pumper 2914, Reserve Pumper 2910, Ambulance 2917, Utility Truck 2919, and Command Vehicles 2900 and 2901.
Can I get my blood pressure checked at the Firehouse?
The Fire Department offers routine blood pressure screenings daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Firehouse. You can contact the Fire Department at (314) 994-1801.
