Citizens Police Academy

The Frontenac Police Department, with our partners in the Town and Country, Creve Coeur, Des Peres and Olivette Police Departments, offers a Citizens Police Academy to our residents in Frontenac, Crystal Lake Park, Huntleigh, and Westwood.

The basic nine-week course is designed to show our citizens how we train and work to protect and serve them. The partnership that develops from this training and understanding creates an environment where our citizens and our police officers work well together to keep our community a safe place to live, work, and visit.

Classes are taught by police instructors who are experts in each field. Participants will become familiar with many of the tools and duties of law enforcement through classroom instruction, role-play practical exercises, and other forms of training. The Academy is designed to give our residents the opportunity to experience first hand some of the many challenges that police officers may encounter while performing their jobs, and what they can do to help their police and their community.

MoonTopics covered will include:
  • Constitutional and Criminal law
  • Response to aggression encounters
  • Criminal investigations
  • Traffic safety
  • Patrol tactics
  • D.W.I. enforcement

Academy students will also have the opportunity to attend and participate in a firearms training session under the close supervision of a Firearms Training Officer.

The Citizens Police Academy is offered to our residents in Frontenac, and our contract cities of Crystal Lake Park, Huntleigh, and Westwood. Training sessions are held in the Spring for nine (9) consecutive weeks, typically on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m.

Admission to the Citizens Police Academy program is by approved application only. Participants must be 18 years of age or older in order to be enrolled. A background investigation will be conducted due to the sensitive nature of law enforcement-specific material covered during the course. To register for the Citizens Police Academy, candidates should complete this online application. By completing the online application form, you are authorizing a background investigation to be completed.

If you have any questions about our Citizens Police Academy, please contact Frontenac Police instructors Officer Mike Barron or Officer Jeremy Newton at the information listed below. We hope to see you at the next Academy!
