Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission has seven members who are volunteers from the community and one member of the Board of Aldermen.

The Planning and Zoning Commission members receive no compensation for serving on the Commission including the Board of Aldermen member. The Commission resident members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Board. The Board of Aldermen member is appointed by the Board of Aldermen.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is primarily responsible for the following areas:

  • Review and update the Frontenac Comprehensive Plan.
  • Review and make recommendations to the Board of Aldermen on any proposed amendments to the Frontenac Land Use Regulations.
  • Review and make recommendations to the Board of Aldermen on applications for rezoning of property, public improvements, conditional use permits, subdivisions and planned developments.  
  • Review any matters referred to the commission by the Board of Aldermen.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month as needed at 6:00 p.m. in the Frontenac City Hall. Periodically the Planning and Zoning Commission may schedule meetings on other days due to holidays and schedules. The Commission must have five members present in order to hold a meeting. It takes a majority of the commission membership (5 votes) to approve or disapprove an item or to make recommendations to the Board of Aldermen.
